Here's a good one for those preferring the originals to the
reissues which sometimes does not reach the clarity of the
originals. The reason for that is of course 20 years or more
of wear to the vinyl used as source material. Blood & Fire
appears to have had a good copy for their release, but so is
the present one. And since it is not so absurdly limited just
in order to play loud, there is still headroom left for the
most explosive dub outbreaks with this rip! In short, turn up
the volume 3 dB extra and this will sound better and more
alive!

The record was originally not credited to Keith Hudson but
the "Second Street Dreads", a purely fictious band name. The
riddims were taken from various points in Hudson's career as
a producer and represent different studio lineups.

The original LP was poorly mastered and several tracks have
had their playback volumes slightly adjusted in order to
make the album play more evenly. The first two tracks on the
second side, e.g., were 1.5 dB too loud compared to the rest.
I don't know whether Blood & Fire made similar adjustments
before their release, but the fluctuating sound level is
rather obvious so my guess is they did.

Played back from premium equipment to bring you the sharpness
and clarity of the original. The 160Kb files (all untitled)
hitherto available at Uptown Rockers sound, as mentioned,
louder but also harder, more metallic (I checked track 2
only). The album was mono so these 160 Kb files contain only
one channel, meaning they actually carry twice as much
information "at the same price"! Had they needlessly been
encoded in stereo, they would have been 320 Kb files
(2x160Kb/s).

Now enjoy this classic and extremely mean dub and the
original cover art - so much more rootsy than the misguided
"artiness" of today's reissues!
